Genomic Cancer Signature Discovery

Cancer encompasses a class of heterogeneous diseases that differ on a cellular and molecular level—even within subtype. This makes it difficult to treat despite advances in more effective therapies, and therefore, cancer remains the second leading cause of death in the U.S. Gene expression profiling of tumors has proven remarkably successful in aiding clinicians’ treatment of cancer patients, in addition to further emphasizing the diverse nature of these diseases.

Ambergen has harnessed the power of genetic specificity in cancer by utilizing the genomic profile of an individual patient’s tumor to predict outcome.  Building on extensive molecular diagnostics experience combined with cutting-edge bioinformatics tools, Ambergen in collaboration with Ananomouse Corporation is developing prognostic assays of gene expression signatures to predict cancer recurrence and response to therapy.  By focusing on only the most informative genes, Ambergen has achieved unparalleled reliability in its assays.

Advantages of Ambergen’s expression-based prognostic assays include:

  • use of formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded (FFPE) patient tissue, the most widely available and stable mode of tissue archiving
  • heavily optimized protocols for RNA isolation and purification
  • industry standard, automatable real-time gene expression equipment
  • innovative layered normalization method includes cancer specific controls
  • exclusive bioinformatics tools developed in-house provide unique solutions to minimize background noise and eliminate batch-to-batch variability

The sensitivity and specificity of Ambergen’s multi-gene assays will allow clinicians to tailor therapy regimens to individuals and make better patient management decisions.

Colorectal Cancer Recurrence Assay:

The Colorectal Cancer (CRC) Recurrence Assay—the most recent addition to Ambergen’s personalized medicine initiative—is a gene expression-based prognostic assay that estimates the likelihood of disease recurrence.  This multi-gene assay is designed to recognize the subtle differences between tumors to give a more accurate prediction of outcome.  Clinicians can thereby gain valuable insight into the behavior of the cancer, allowing them to make more informed patient-specific treatment decisions.
